I thought you might at least be amusing….
Being sensitive to the problems of the world, problem of your immediate environment and problems of your livelihood in general. These seemed to be the landmines that were out on the stage last night for the Golden Globes.
The entertainment industry is trying to figure out how to keep making money in the face of DVR, online distribution, pirating and a decreasing television audience. If you are not relevant and live you cannot make sell advertising.

The only thing you can make money on now is live sports. Or blue people.
All of that seems irrelevant when 60 minutes is doing a story while you are airing about using a bulldozer in Haiti to move dead bodies into a mass grave. But you are stuck on stage in a live broadcast, on a dying network with a room full of drunk people who really could care less about you presenting an award.
Helen Mirren looked like an angry school teacher walking into a room of unruly children.
So what would Bette say? Here’s the Davis from the (1935) film Dangerous for which she won an academy award .
“I thought you might least be amusing, but you turned out to be dull and stupid and so afraid!”
Here’s a great acceptance speech.
