Wow. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse she starts hitting herself with sausages. That was an amazing lesson in awkwardness.
Totally cool. Here’s what I loved: the youngest Barbara Stanwyck I’ve ever seen, moments of dead silence in a movie (now there’s so much dialogue filling everything up), and a reminder of what kind of sexist bullshit women used to put up with from petty tyrants. All around A+!
I’m glad you liked it! Actually this is the youngest Barbara Stanwyck you’ve ever seen! This was the role that made her a star. I think it was her first major role. I didn’t think about the fact that the whole thing had such limited dialogue. Good catch! The awkwardness of hitting herself with sausages is bizarre and awkwardly familiar. It seems as if she is performing circus tricks.
