John Edwards and Clark Gable: A Couple of Baby Daddies

I bring up the baby daddy issue because today the New York Times reported John Edwards has finally admitted paternity to his two year old daughter, the love child from his affair with Rielle Hunter. I’m going to give John and his new daughter a great Pre-Code movie to watch. “The Call of the Wild” (1935) was the film Clark Gable and Loretta Young had an affair on and produced the lovely Judy Lewis. The affair and pregnancy were covered up and the child was “adopted” by Young. Gable never admitted publicly to the paternity, but look at her!

She turned out great..but you never know!

According to the newspapers…

“According to the newspapers of this country the banks are full of dough, the grainaries are bursting with grain, and yet there are twelve million people out of work”-Spencer Tracy- Man’s Castle (Frank Borzage, 1933)

What do you think? Does this clip sound familiar to you at all? You know what you hear in the news reports, but is your situation getting better or worse?
In December, both the number of unemployed persons, at 15.3 million, and the unemployment rate,
at 10.0 percent, were unchanged.

She Had to Say Yes, Well Professor Mary Daly didn’t.

Mary Daly, a Leader in Feminist Theology, Dies at 81 . I myself had no idea who this woman was until today. All I know is last night I saw this REALLY disturbing movie. She Had to Say Yes(1933), could be described as the most misogynistic movie ever made. But, I'm not sure that instead it could be described better as, the most honest and open misogynistic movie I've ever seen. First of all, the fact that this movie freaked me out, makes me think about how some of the offices I've worked in didn't openly cross this line, but made me realize what men REALLY think of women. How women are never really regarded as successful, but rather always for sale.
